Residential and commercial decorating services in Canterbury

Internal painting and decorating:

This service includes the redecoration of ceilings, walls, and woodwork within your property. For ceilings and walls with porous surfaces, we will first apply a mist coat and prime any bare woodwork before applying the top coats.

To ensure proper paint adhesion, any previously painted surfaces with sheen finishes will be sanded to a matt like finish. This applies to ceilings, walls, and all woodwork.

We will carefully address any cracks in the ceilings and walls by racking them out and filling them with a durable filler, followed by a powder filler. Additionally, any imperfections and holes will be filled with powder filler, while pinholes or imperfections in the woodwork will be filled with wood filler. These areas will then be sanded smooth to achieve a flawless finish.

Any cracks between woodwork, walls, and ceiling joints will be caulked to create a clean and professional straight edge appearance.

Any stains will be tackled using an adequate stain blocker in the form of shellac or solvent based; dependant on the stain in question.

Finally your desired top coat finishes and colours will be applied. We take care to protect all areas of your property during the decoration process.

External painting and decorating:

The first step will be a thorough inspection to identify any areas affected by mold or dampness. Once these areas are treated and fully dried, we can proceed with the necessary repairs.

Any wood rot will be carefully removed, and new wood will be spliced into the joint or hardened and filled with external wood filler. The area will then be sanded to achieve a flawless finish. To protect the woodwork from the elements, it will be undercoated and top-coated ideally with a solvent-based external trim paint.

We will also assess the condition of the walls, raking and filling any cracks or loose areas with a masonry powder filler that blends seamlessly with the existing texture. Any blown, flaking, or loose paint will be scraped back and, if necessary, blended with external powder filler for masonry. A stabiliser primer will then be applied to ensure optimal adhesion for the masonry paint.

Wall paper removal and application:

Wallpaper offers both decorative appeal and a cost-effective solution for concealing imperfections. However, some clients prefer to remove existing wallpaper and opt for a painted finish. While it is possible to paint over wallpaper with certain products, this option depends on the condition of the existing paper.

For wallpaper removal, we avoid using steamers to minimize the risk of damaging the plaster. Our preferred method involves stripping the top layer of paper and soaking the base layer to prepare it for scraping. If this proves difficult, we have specialized tools, products, and techniques to soak behind the paper without harming the walls.

Once the wallpaper is removed, the walls are prepared for painting. This includes sanding to remove any remaining paste and priming with a sealant to prevent flaking and cracking. Any imperfections are then filled and sanded for a flawless finish before applying the topcoats. If new wallpaper is being applied, the walls will be inspected and sized if necessary to ensure optimal adhesion.

Depending on the condition of the walls, multiple layers of high-grade lining paper may be applied in vertical and horizontal lines to create a smooth surface for the final layer of wallpaper or paint.

As a helpful tip, we recommend the option of painting along the pre-drawn seam lines with a colour that matches the wallpaper. This will help to disguise any slight misalignments in the paper that may occur due to uneven walls.
